2001
Aspen Communications was established in June 2001 by Grant and Toni Thorburn to provide service to AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Avaya customers. Toni was the former Field Services Manager with Lucent Technologies in Reno and is still certified on all of their systems. During the start-up of Aspen, Toni worked at Nellis Air Force Base as the Senior System Technician for Red River Communications and Grant worked in gaming as a software sales engineer. In November 2001 the growth of Aspen made Toni and Grant make a decision, grow their own company using a set of Goals and Values adopted from McCaw Cellular, or stay where they were. Having faith in their commitment to customer service, understanding that small business don't have the telecom expertise on staff but need it, and their hard work ethic, they committed to making Aspen Communications the premier small business telecom company in Las Vegas, NV.
2003
Chuck Jones joins Aspen Communications as the first employee. He was followed closely by Tim Grundy and with the additional knowledge and expertise, Aspen branches in to data networks and audio/video to meet the growing demands of the small business market. A Northern Nevada presence was added with Judi Harris from Lucent Technologies joining the team. We expanded our telecom offering to include Panasonic, Norstar and Altigen.
2004-2007
Keeping in line with our Goals and Values, Aspen grows the business and adds new technology to support the booming Nevada economy. We expanded to provide technicians to Cox Hospitality installing wireless access points and set-top boxes in the Golden Nugget expansion and the Wynn Resorts build. We installed the CCTV system in company-owned McDonald's throughout the Valley. Aspen became a carrier reseller through Sandler Partners moving into full-service, single-point of contact for our customers. Approached by VoIP carriers, Aspen decides not to jump into the technology until it is more stable and proven.
2008-2016
Still here! The downturn in the economy had Aspen focus on our core business and why we started; providing superior telecom service, support and equipment to small businesses. With the legacy knowledge we retained, we were able to maintain the older equipment while keeping our doors open. We used this time to expand our VoIP knowledge, test and decide on VoIP carriers still with the expertise to help our customers move from legacy equipment to new technology as the economy recovered.
2016-2018
Attempting some business partnerships, we learned from our mistakes, changed our focus and acknowledged our mission to assist small business embrace the technology change happening right now. We developed Aspen Connect, combining an onsite appliance with cloud features, to give small businesses a low-cost avenue to upgrade their technology.
2019
Aspen Connect has given us the ability to help small businesses throughout the State save money and upgrade their technology. We've expanded our VoIP carriers and offer features based on customer needs. With Tim taking the helm of Aspen, we have a bright future supporting small business and helping them understand and decide on the technology they need to grow.
Establish Aspen as the premier communication service and solution provider to small and mid-size business community by earning the loyalty of our customers and partners through the superior value we offer.
By doing the above, we commit to becoming a premier convenience communications company.
